Pricing your vehicle: how to set the right asking price
Price determines whether your listing gets enquiries. Too high, and buyers skip past you in search results; too low, and you leave money on the table. Set your asking price by comparing similar Kaarakauppa listings and honestly assessing your vehicle's condition.
1. Compare against similar listings
Search Kaarakauppa for vehicles of the same make, model, and year, and see what they are currently listed for. If you only find a few comparable listings, widen the search to adjacent model years.
π‘ Tip: If a comparable listing has been up for a long time, that often signals a price that's too high.
2. Declare condition honestly
On the listing you set exterior and interior condition on a scale from excellent β good β fair β poor, plus three mechanical condition indicators: engine runs smoothly, no dashboard warning lights, regular maintenance performed. Better condition justifies a higher price β but only if the assessment is accurate.
β οΈ Heads up: Don't mark a vehicle "excellent" if it has visible damage. A dishonest condition assessment leads to wasted viewings and ultimately a lower sale price, once the buyer negotiates based on defects they discover in person.
3. Decide whether the price is negotiable
The listing has a Negotiable toggle. When it's on, buyers see a "Negotiable" indicator next to your asking price β it lowers the barrier for buyers to get in touch. Leave the toggle off if your price is already at the lower end of the market and you have no room to move.
4. Use the selling point and model description fields
Two optional short text fields appear on the listing card in search results (both capped at 160 characters):
- Selling point β a short marketing tagline, such as "One owner, full service history". This is where you explain why your asking price is justified.
- Model description β the exact trim or variant of your vehicle, such as "320 d Touring xDrive M Sport". Helps the right buyer find your listing.
5. Update the price if needed
You can edit the price at any time after publishing: open My listings from the avatar menu β or Company listings under the company menu on a business account β select Edit, and update the price field. The change takes effect immediately.
Checklist before publishing:
- [ ] I have compared my price against at least one similar Kaarakauppa listing
- [ ] I have set the condition fields honestly (exterior, interior, mechanical)
- [ ] I have decided whether the price is negotiable
- [ ] The selling point explains why this vehicle is worth its asking price
What happens next?
Once your listing is published, it appears in search results straight away. If you're getting views but no enquiries, consider lowering the price or adding more photos.
